About Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University

Oxford University, with a student population of 14,500, is one of the oldest, most distinguished, and most competitive teaching and research institutions in the world.  The University comprises forty-five colleges and halls, some dating from the 13th century. Its unique educational system is based on the “tutorial,” similar to a directed reading, for with one to three students and an accompanying discussion group. Visiting students are registered as members of the university and the colleges to which they are admitted; they are granted membership in their Junior Common Room, and are allowed access to libraries, as well as to social and sports facilities.

Location:
Located right by the University Parks and on the Cherwell River, LMH’s twelve-acre campus offers a serene and lovely setting. Initially founded as the first women’s college in 1878, today it is fully coeducational with 400 undergraduates and 120 graduate students. Among the many  outstanding features of LMH are the new dorms recently completed, the handsome library, playing fields and punting boats along the Cherwell.
