Wheaton College is committed to providing students with opportunities to broaden their understanding and vision beyond the borders of this campus and this country. We work in collaboration with carefully selected partner institutions around the world to support our students as they prepare to study abroad and while they are overseas. Students must apply to Wheaton's Center for Global Education as well as the institution through which they plan to study abroad. The most up-to-date information can be found on the program provider's website above.
Fall Program Calendar:
August: 3 weeks in Salamanca (for credit)
3 days/2 nights in Madrid
3 week intensive language course in Cadiz prior to semester start
Semester at University of Cadiz (late September through December 20)
Prior Spanish language study is required – four semesters of college-level Spanish.
Courses & Credits:
The program begins with three weeks in Salamanca, with a three week, intensive language immersion course.
Students then take 3-4 courses for the fall semester at the University of Cadiz. 15-16 semester hours of credit at Cadiz will earn 4.0 Wheaton credits.
Courses are taught in Spanish.
Housing & Meals:
Students will live with homestays. Three meals per day are included. Laundry services are offered once a week. All homestays are within a 5-20 minute walk of the University of Cadiz; no public transportation is required to get to campus.
Students studying abroad will continue to pay Wheaton tuition, room and board as they would on campus. Study abroad students are not charged Wheaton technology, laundry, or student activities fees while on a study abroad program. Wheaton will, in turn, pay the program for all tuition and homestay fees, housing and board. Wheaton will also pay for students' health insurance and a round trip flight.
Also included in the program fee are:
Local co-curricular activities
Spanish visa fees and processing through Boston consulate
Fees billed by Wheaton will be charged to students on their regular Wheaton College student account during regular billing cycles (July/December).
Federal, state, Wheaton need-based and merit scholarships will be applied to these charges for Wheaton-approved programs. Students must consult with the Office of Student Financial Services (SFS) for a comprehensive review of their aid. If a student receives aid beyond the cost of Wheaton tuition, they can request a refund through SFS.
This program is offered in partnership with API and Amherst College.
